(male announcer): this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. now at 8-- >> catherine: the death toll is rising in saturday's devastating mudslide in washington state. kron 4's grant lodes is here now with the new developments. grant? >> reporter:the announcement came just over one hour ago: a total of 16 bodies recovered and 8 more located. that is 24 people known dead, as well as more than one=hundred still unaccounted for. the head of the rescue effort says he has never seen anything like the total devastation from the giant mudslide. >>it is just unimaginable the conditions out there. vehicles are just like twisted and torn up into pieces >> reporter:their rural community is buried under 20 feet of mud family and friends of the missing gather at a local church and pray for a miracle.
